Comfort airport (near Indianapolis, Indiana) to see the B-17 Liberty Belle. It was quite an experience to be so close to one of the <em>Flying Fortresses</em> that helped defeat the Axis. Actually, this one never saw combat as it came off the line just as the war was winding down, but still!<br /><br />The original Liberty Belle went down, but this B-17 was named as a tribute to the original. <br /><br />My Grandpa, Cpl Sam Stanich was an armourer in the Army Air Corp and worked on these bombers. I could just picture him looking up from the flight lines as waves of these <em>Fortresses</em> took off and flew overhead and wondering how many would return, and in what condition.
