Keep 'Em Flying!

Click here to visit the Liberty Belle Foundation

On 5 July my father and I took a trip to Mt. Comfort airport (near Indianapolis, Indiana) to see the B-17 Liberty Belle. It was quite an experience to be so close to one of the Flying Fortresses that helped defeat the Axis. Actually, this one never saw combat as it came off the line just as the war was winding down, but still!

The original Liberty Belle went down, but this B-17 was named as a tribute to the original.

One of my Grandfathers was in the Army Air Corp and worked on these bombers. I could just picture him looking up from the flight lines as waves of these Fortresses took off and flew overhead and wondering how many would return, and in what condition. So this trip was a tribute to him and all who flew and worked on these mighty planes.

To all who flew and worked on these planes, thank you!
